Dr. Charles Camarda, former astronaut and current deputy director for advanced projects in the NASA Engineering and Safety Center, led a team of instructors and participants through an intense five-day Innovative Engineering course July 28-August 1 at Penn State University in State College, PA. The goal of the course was to help the 25 participants apply the techniques of creative thinking to solve a real-world NASA problem.

The NESC Academy is pleased to announce the Innovative Engineering Course presented by Dr. Charles Camarda. This intensive five-day residential course will include topics such as creative thinking, design cycles, nature as an innovator, concept visualization, simple models to describe behavior, CAD/rapid prototyping, optimization, and the importance of failure in design. Also, participants will work on a real NASA design problem.

The NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC) Academy explored Loads and Dynamics in a 3-day classroom course entitled: "Loads and Dynamics—Learning from the Past and Looking to the Future," offered December 4—6, 2007, in Houston, Texas. Thirty-three students attended, including observers, from NASA locations and contractor affiliations across the country.
